Josie Nugent Gardens started out as Josie’s trading name for her business as a self-employed gardener but is now a collaboration with Matt Burnett who brings with him an RHS qualification and …years of experience in horticulture and landscaping. We are working closely with sister company Garden Sage Nurseries Ltd. to bring a complete plant-based service to all our customers.
Josie Nugent
Josie has been gardening since she qualified with a Higher National Diploma in Amenity Horticulture in 2001. Her career in Horticulture has taken her from a busy garden maintenance company in North London to a quieter stint in the countryside gardening for the National Trust at Scotney Castle; working in nurseries and doing the odd design project before taking some time out to look after her young children.
For the last six years she has been self-employed, undertaking many aspects of gardening, design and consultation for private clients. When Josie’s not gardening she enjoys spending time with her family, singing a Capella and visiting gardens.
Matt Burnett
Matt has been working in the landscaping and gardening business for 18 years. When landscaping he has covered all aspects of garden construction including paving, brickwork, decking and lawns.
Often presented with a blank canvas he has worked in conjunction with customers and other designers to build and develop gardens for practical use but also to be aesthetically and visually pleasing. After construction he uses a palette of suitable plants to soften and compliment the hard surfaces providing a natural environment to be within.
Recently Matt has undertaken more garden maintenance; working with the seasons, year round, to get the best out of border care, pruning and planting. This has included border renovation and design, improving existing and/or incorporating new planting.
The timing, in combination with Matt and Josie’s experience is perfect to collaborate and develop Josie Nugent Gardens.
From March Matt will be on site in our office at Garden Sage Nurseries every Thursday and Friday arranging and managing site contracts and will be available to arrange site visits and discuss your requirements. Please drop in!
Outside of gardening Matt is a big music fan and can often be heard listening to Planet Rock whilst propagating his own plants, sowing seeds and looking after the veg plot. He also likes visiting RHS and National Trust Gardens and other inspirational gardens such as Great Dixter and Sissinghurst, and walking in the mountains of the Lake District.
